What Does It Mean to 'Activate It'?
Have you ever had an idea, a dream, or a skill just sitting inside of you, waiting for the right moment? Maybe you’ve said, “I’ll do it when I’m ready,” or “One day, I’ll try.” That moment you’re waiting for? It’s now.
That’s what Activate It is all about.
Johnnie Williams III, author and speaker, believes that everyone has something powerful inside them — a gift, a purpose, a voice — and it’s just waiting to be turned on. To “activate it” means to stop waiting, stop second-guessing, and start moving. It’s about turning your potential into action.
So, what exactly is “It”?
“It” is different for everyone. For one person, “it” could be the courage to speak up. For another, “it” might be a creative idea, a business plan, or a desire to help others. It might be your voice, your leadership, your art, your kindness, your drive to serve your community.
Whatever your “it” is — it’s the thing that makes you feel alive, useful, and full of purpose. If you’ve ever had that small whisper in your heart saying, “Do something more,” that’s your “it” speaking to you.
Why do we wait?
A lot of people wait because they think they need permission. Or they think they need to be perfect before starting. But Johnnie reminds us that you don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to take the first step.
Waiting for the perfect time is like waiting for a sign that already exists inside you. You ARE the sign. The world needs your voice, your action, your effort.
Activating doesn’t mean doing something big
It can start small. Helping someone. Starting a club. Sharing your story. Asking a question. Volunteering in your community. Calling a friend who needs to hear from you.
In Activate It, Johnnie says, “It’s about not just living in the world, but participating in its reshaping.” That means being part of the solution — even in small, everyday ways.
How to activate your “It”:
- Listen to your whisper. What have you been thinking about a lot? What keeps tugging at your heart?
- Start small. You don’t need a big stage. Start with one act of kindness, one conversation, or one decision.
- Keep going. Progress doesn’t happen overnight. Be consistent.
- Build with others. Find people who care about the same things you do. Teamwork activates faster change.
- Reflect and grow. Ask yourself: “What am I learning? What can I do next?”
The world needs you
You don’t have to be the loudest. You don’t have to be the smartest. You just have to be willing. When you activate your “it,” you become a light for others. You help people see what’s possible for themselves, too.
Think of this blog as your personal invitation: Tag, you’re it.
So, what are you waiting for? Activate it.
